About the Auxiliary:
The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary was established by Congress in 1939 to assist the Coast Guard in promoting boating safety. It boasts more than 36,000 members from all walks of life who receive special training so that they may be a functional part of Coast Guard Forces. Auxiliarists assist the Coast Guard in non-law enforcement programs such as public education, vessel safety checks, safety patrols, search and rescue, maritime security and environmental protection. Auxiliarists also serve side-by-side with active duty members of the Coast Guard team at their stations and in times of disaster. They volunteer more than 2 million hours annually to benefit other boaters and their families.

Perform almost 166,000 vessel safety checks
Educate over 500,000 students in boating safety classes
Train 45,000 hours to develop personal skills
Benefits of Membership:
Members are eligible to receive the world's finest on-the-water training. Advanced training courses in Navigation, Seamanship, Communications, Weather, Patrols, and Search & Rescue are available as well as courses from the Coast Guard Institute. Other benefits include the Coast Guard Credit Union and Exchanges plus insurance coverage.
